Eating Out with GD - Houlihan’s

Sometimes it sucks to eat out.

Wednesday night Jason and I went to Houlihan’s for dinner. I had the stuffed chicken with green beans and asparagus. My favorite thing at Houlihan’s is the French Dip and french fries. So of course that's what Jason got!

What I ate...

What I wanted to eat...

Houlihan’s does a great of posting their nutritional info. I noted it below. I don't believe for a moment that I ate 95 carbs last night. My blood sugar was 105 at 2 hours post meal. I do believe I had that much sodium - I drank 3 glasses of water with dinner and more when I got home.

I'm not sure how many carbs croutons add to the salad, but I did get my salad crouton free. I don't know what other carbs are in the salad. The veggies are kinda "free" carbs, so the chicken is the important one to look at.

The other issue with looking for low carb options? At restaurants they are sometimes the highest calorie and fat items. However, since I eat well at home, sometimes I still need the extra calories.

Note - before going to Houlihan’s, I knew I could have a cheeseburger. That's actually what I wanted. The waiter pointed out the Stuffed Chicken Breast - garlic herb cream cheese stuffed inside a chicken breast. Um, cream cheese? Sold! It's supposed to come with Mashed Potatoes - I knew *way* better and skipped those. This would have been the nutritional info as stated on the menu (and adding a side salad.)

In general, it pays to really look at the info before eating out. I lucked out having a decent blood sugar number after my "95 carb" meal. I did... I am supposed to have 45-60 carbs per meal. However, I also lucked out not knowing because it was delicious and I enjoyed dinner.

One of the restaurants I miss right now is Granite City Brewery. But they have no nutritional values posted. AT ALL. I understand some restaurants won't post it because it can vary from restaurant to restaurant depending on the chefs and who determines your "portion" sizes and if there are local vendors supplying your food. However, a range would be nice! It's a shame they don't want to make the customer happy. *shaking my head* Such a shame.
