Hunger

I'm ready to eat anything.

Day 2. I cheated and had some coffee with my Tbsp of International Delight - Carmel. Oooh it was good. Past that, I've had a protein shake, fruit, almond butter, more fruit, veggies, fish, almonds, fruit, cottage cheese, more fish, a 1/2 a sweet potato. And I'm still hungry.

And I've sniffed some Mint M&Ms.

I've drank almost 100 ounces of water. Now that I cut out my 44oz after Dt. Dr. Pepper.... yea...

I also had a nasty headache today. Probably due to lack of sugar, carbs, and caffeine. I can't determine which. However, I can say that my "gas" issue has been much much better. I think it's actually the carbonation from the soda. It could be the sugar and/or carbs.

I would compare the Jay Robb Diet for Women to a Paleo Diet. I can have rice tortillas and oatmeal. I plan to get some rice tortillas later when I break out the frozen burrito filling. Since I can have the burrito filling (though I am unsure how the ratio of the food amounts are to the allotted amounts though), it would be nice to keep it gluton free and have the brown-rice tortillas. It's my understanding that Trader Joe's carries them.

Once my stomach finishes devouring itself, I could stick with this diet. But I'm not sure how I'll stick to it when I'm in the field for 3 weeks. I can stick with it fairly well at breakfast, drink a protein shake, eat a protein bar for lunch some days, but dinner is the hard part. I'd have to make sure I eat fish and veggies at the restaurants. And it's a bummer that the Panera and Olive Garden and Ruby Tuesdays are our favorite places in Champaign.

The Diet Guru's Wife (Jay Robb's wife), posted her breakfast this morning. She got the idea (I think) from here.  They look really easy to make, and even though I don't eat ham, they would be a great thing to make for a brunch group or large breakfast.

Wow. Only Monday? Crud. :(

Guinea Pig

I like to use Jay Robb Protein. The vanilla whey is my favorite and it's obvious because a large container sits on my counter top. I make protein shakes often, especially since I've given up meat.

I've "Liked" both his and his wife's facebook page and they had a simple post about the new book and the new diet. It's called The Jay Robb Diet for Women. I have an advanced copy and am following the book and the diet for 3 weeks. In summary, you should follow the diet for 60 days and from what I understand so far, you'll be carb and sugar free! It sounds so scary. I'm willing to give anything a try, especially to help out a writer and my favorite Protein Guru.

So Day 1 - not a complete fail. I still had a veggie burrito which was bad because of the tortilla and the milk in the egg mixture. In order to take part in the project, I was required to start the diet by tomorrow. It's tough to just jump in when I have a fridge full of other food that needs eaten. I'm trying to make do. I might just freeze the carrot bisque.

For dinner I purchased fish from Sam's Club and had my allotted 3-ounces of Salmon. We grilled and Jason had steak. We also had some of those microwaveable potatoes. I ate half and had a small spinach salad.

In other daily news -- Jason and I purchased our wedding rings today! I've been having nightmares of not having the rings at our wedding ceremony. I wasn't sure what I wanted, and Jason wasn't sure what he wanted, but we wound up with matching rings.

Also, I'm trying to save the environment and my bank account - one dryer load at a time. I've started hanging up the laundry to dry. It's easiest with sheets and towels. We don't have a lot of room downstairs to dry things, but a triple clothes line is hung up. I might look this summer to hang something through the yard. Anything to save money.

Trying new things - Carrot Bisque

This orange soupy gross looking mess is actually carrot bisque. And it's amazing. It's a few simple ingredients, a little prep, a lot of crock-pot time, some submersible mixing, and BAM, done. :)

Carrot Bisque
2 Pounds Carrots
1 Large (White) Onion
2 TBSP Oil.
2 Cloves of Garlic
Use Ninja to mince carrots (I used 2 bags of baby carrots.) Dice Onion, Saute for 10-minutes on stove-top.

Place in crock-pot.

Add:
2 Cups Vegetable Broth (chicken might alter the flavor.)
1/2 TBSP Curry Powder (Or more if you like Curry)
1/2 tsp Salt
Dash of Pepper

Let that all simmer for 5-6 hours. The purpose is the get the carrots mushy.

Use an Hand Blender to pulverize the mixture into a thick cream.

Add:
1 (13-ounce) can of coconut milk. I used the Thai brand. I've heard there are low-fat or light versions, but Wal-mart didn't offer me many choices.

Whisk together, let warm up, and serve. Makes 8 servings (a full cup). 3PP+ a serving. The majority of the points comes from the coconut milk.

Today was great. Woke up around 8, had PT with Dave at 9:30, got some laundry done, showered, lunch, and then headed into work. I have to get some things completed this weekend.

I got home, have eaten some soup, and am catching up on television. First, Grey's Anatomy. Second, Pan Am. Not sure what else I'll have time for after that. While I'm watching TV, I'm going to coupon, and prepare my menu planning.

Crock Pot Veggie Burritos

Good - Tracking the past three days. Got in 3 amazing workouts too! I've earned 19 Activity Points so far this week. Tuesday night was a double - I ran at home (1.7 miles) before being handed my lungs by Dave the Trainer.

Bad - Mint M&Ms. :(

I got a new crock pot for Christmas. It's larger and much better than my small one. Mostly because of size. Some because of the timer feature. It'll will auto-shut off and stay on warm so things aren't overcooked. I did learn to start my crock-pot meals at lunch (Noon) when I'm home from work instead of 7am when I leave at work.

So I made crock-pot burritos this week. I've made burritos before, on the stove. It takes awhile to cook and put them together. I had PT at 7pm and knew I wouldn't feel like putting together dinner, so the crock-pot was my savior!

My recipe. Makes an estimated 25-30 Servings (1/2 Cup Scoops), 2PP+
2 Cups Brown Instant Rice
3 Cups Chicken Broth
2 Cups Salsa (We had Pace Picanta Sauce, a very running salsa.)
2 Cans (15oz)  Black Beans
2 Cans (15 oz) Diced Tomatoes (Choose your own flavor.)
1 Can Diced Chilis (4oz)
3 Peppers sliced thin
1/2 Red Onion Sliced Thin
I added 1 Tblsp of Paprika, Cumin, and Red Pepper Flakes.
I also added 4-5 Jalapenos and a couple Tblsp juice.

I let that all soak overnight and until noon in the crock pot (in the fridge.)
I popped it in at lunch and it was more than ready after my workouts.

I used Mission 96% Fat Free Tortilla, Wholly Guacamole, Daisy Reduced Fat Sour Cream, and some Colby Jack cheese. TOTALLY YUMMY!!! Dinner was 14 points. More than usual, but great after some high calorie burning.

Television

I like TV. Every fat girl does. :) And if I miss a TV show, I have to sit down and stare at the laptop to catch up. And sometimes it loads, sometimes it freezes, sometimes I have to wait 8 days (Thanks Fox!). So I purchased a DVR. It's already made my life easier. It arrived Saturday - so I had plenty of time to figure it out! And we even recorded Alcatraz last night (the Pilot re-aired) and I had wanted to see it, but it wasn't on at a convenient time.

While I will be watching just as much TV as before, I am not tied down to my TV schedule. If I am having a great run and it's 6:55, I don't have to think about quiting it just because it's almost 7 and such and such is on. And with skipping commercials, TV watching will go quicker.

I had a great week last week! From Sunday to Saturday I got in 5 great workouts. That's 5 Gold Stars. My goal this week is another 5 stars. I did not work out today, but I am exhausted because I've been nonstop. We started with grocery shopping, then prepping for Breakfast Burritos and the Chopped veggies for the week. And making the burritos and two quiches. My only down time was going to see MI4 (pretty awesome, first Mission Impossible movie I've seen.), and watching one episode of Lost Season 4.

We still have lots of leftovers. Jason and I manged to eat dinner and lunch IN every day this past week/weekend except for Jason going to Jimmy John's one night (I had chili.) We still have leftover Chili, Broccoli Soup, Spaghetti Squash, Quiche, and plenty of Salad.

Tomorrow night I am making Burritos. And on Thursday I plan to make a Carrot Bisque. Instead of heavy cream it uses coconut milk. It'll be another soup for the possibly cold week.

Gold Stars

For the Biggest Loser competition, I have a calendar on my fridge. It goes from Jan 15 to Apr 28. And it's simple. If I work out, I get a star. If I go to PT, I get a bigger star. It's enough motivation. When I did the 25 Days of Fitness, I was bummed when I didn't earn a sticker for the day. The calendar also reminds me of the grand prize!!

So already, Day 4 and I have 3 Gold Stars! (The past weekend was too busy AND my BFF was hanging out with me..)

Dinner tonight was Spaghetti Squash. It turned out really well for making it the first time. I splurged on a Multi Grain Cibata Roll. Oh so yummy. And totally healthier than the normal Garlic Bread Texas Toast we normally have.

More field work this week! I already picked up a sandwhich and have plenty of veggies to take along to snack on.

168 Days Left.... Biggest Loser Competition

The past two weeks. I'm not sure what has happened, I can't believe January is already half over!

I picked out my dress this weekend. And the MOH dress. And the MOH and I finalized details for the Bridal Shower and the Bachelorette party ideas. I don't want to pay those stupid games for my Bachelorette Party, and I'm super duper excited that my MOH actually listens to me. And understands me. We had a great weekend together.

Sunday at work we started a Biggest Loser Competition. It's a $20 buy-in and the winner (both male and female winners chosen) get $285. That's a LOT of money!! So that's my goal. WIN. $285 dollars. The contest ends on April 29th. That's the motivation I need to get on track! And my dress fitting is May 1.

So today I attempted to eat well. I had my protein shake (2) points, 2 bananas, a late lunch of a 6-inch Subway sandwich. Then the fiance, who is my #2 Saboteur (I'm my #1), brought home cheese pizza! Why couldn't he get bacon on it like his brother? I devoured 3 emotional pizza slices.

So I headed downstairs. I did some punching (that helped a lot!), planks, chest presses, triceps, then knocked out 1.5 something miles on the treadmill, burning 500 calories on the treadmill.

My goal is to do 30-minutes of something each night. Whether it's just walking or a combo of things and my DVDs.

Late to the game.

All my bloggers have already posted this year! I'm late! It's been a very very very very busy year already. Today marks exactly 180 days until my wedding!

The end of the year I spent working, a lot. I've been working in East St. Louis on the new I-70 Mississippi River Bridge project. The job limits the amount of fluids I drink. The nearest bathroom facility that I am willing to use is 5 minutes away. The first couple days I left dehydrated. Being dehydrated gives me a migraine and leaves me exhausted (and cranky.) I got better control of my field duties and leave whenever I need to use the restroom (instead of lunch and end of day). Being outside all day in 40-degree windy overcast weather tires me out though and I have not been working out.

The job is cool. It's neat to be a part of something this big. I also have two other job sites nearby. This is also my 5th or 6th project for the I-70 Bridge. FYI - Google Maps shows the new bridge path. And the aerial shows the concrete piers. The steel supports are mostly on. I watched some more go up today.  There's a time-lapse camera on the Missouri side. I'll post the link later (I have it bookmarked at work.)

Jason and I spent the New Year's Weekend painting. Andy (It's his house) helped too. We had to paint the ceilings and unwallpaper the kitchen to get started. The ceiling paint gave me a migraine on NYEs so we didn't go out. We managed to get it all done! The kitchen, hallway, and one wall in the living room is tan and the rest of the living room is a blueish-grey. It's dark, but looks great. My goal this weekend is to try and get the pictures back on the.

So 2012. Let's do this!

It's more than just a new year. While most people look at Jan 1 as a New Year, I always look a few days further to Jan 5. It's my birthday. And while I'm excited to see what the new year brings, I'm also excited to see what my birthday brings. What will 32 be for me? Am I where I want to be? (Still in East St. Louis, ugh). I'm getting married, and that is really exciting. It's later (in life) than I wanted, but it took me a while to find an amazing guy.

A lot of people start their diets on 1/1. Those people probably aren't eating ice cream cake five days later. It's my all time favorite treat. We will be having that on Sunday when I celebrate with my family. So on Monday January 9, my New Year will officially begin. I have contemplated my resolutions throughout the week while sitting out in the cold. I determined that I hate resolutions. My life is awesome so what do I really need to change?

I saw a SpecialK commercial tonight about not needing to lose, but what do you want to gain? What do I want to gain this year? I'm going to think about that a little more....and comment on it later. But I did come up with some resolutions. Or, short term goals.

My goals for fitness will be broke down in 90 day increments. I will concentrate on exercising in 90 day increments. I will follow my 7 week running program. I will start and complete TurboFire. For the next 7 weeks, I will follow the running program and run 3-4 times a week. I will continue to see Dave (PT) twice a week. I will add 2 additional cardio/DVD workouts to my week.

My weakness when it comes to weight loss is that I don't stick with tracking and logging my food. And measuring. So I will take it one month at a time. For the next 30 days, I will log everything I eat. If I wind up in the field, I will write it down. I will email it to myself. I will do what it takes to write down everything. I will do whatever it takes to avoid fast-fast food. (Subway is the exception.) 30 Days. No Fast Food.

With the Holidays, I didn't meal plan like I should. So again, one month at a time. Or one week. This week we had leftovers on Tuesday. And today I made Tortilla Soup. It's super delicious. I had a salad too. Tomorrow night Jason says he'll take me out for my birthday, but if I don't feel better (I have a migraine right now and am tired from working outside), then we'll go out to dinner later. Maybe one time next week.

General things I want to accomplish:
Blog 2x a week. This is my extra support.
Pass the Professional Engineering. The next exam is in April. I can and will pass it this time.

This weekend I'll post a list of things I want to gain this year. Aside from a husband, of course. :)
